Pet Product OEM MOQ: How to Plan Sizes, Colors and Your First Order
How we help buyers clarify order quantities and customization before requesting a quotation.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! For a pet product OEM order, the minimum order quantity should be confirmed against the actual design and variation plan. A total quantity alone does not tell us how many products you need in each size, color, or material combination.
At ZRC, we invite buyers to send a reference image together with the proposed order split. This gives us a clearer basis for discussing the project and confirming its quotation conditions.

Does MOQ apply to the whole order or to each variation?
The scope of MOQ needs to be stated in the quotation. A minimum may apply to a design, a material or color batch, or another agreed production grouping. Buyers should not assume that one stated minimum covers every variation.
When contacting us, list the quantity for each requested size and color. This lets us understand the complete order rather than treating all units as interchangeable.
For example, a request for one dog bed size in one fabric color differs from a collection containing several sizes and fabrics. Even if the total unit count is the same, the production requirements may differ.
Why can colors and sizes affect the MOQ discussion?
Colors and sizes can change material purchasing and production preparation. A custom fabric color may involve a different sourcing requirement from an available material. A size change may affect pattern pieces, inserts, frames, or other components.
For that reason, we ask buyers to identify both the requested variations and their quantities. Availability and feasibility need to be checked for the actual project.
A color swatch or reference image communicates the desired appearance, but it does not by itself confirm material availability.
Can we discuss mixed sizes and colors with ZRC?
Yes. Send us your preferred size and color combination for review. Whether that combination can be accepted, and under which conditions, must be confirmed for the project.
A useful request specifies:
- Product model or reference image
- Dimensions for each requested size
- Color references
- Quantity for each variation
- Logo and label requirements
- Target market and sales channel
If you have flexibility, tell us which changes you would consider. This makes the discussion more useful than asking about a mixed order without a defined combination.
How do different first-order plans compare?
The following table compares planning approaches. It does not represent an approved ZRC price list or order policy.
<table> <thead> <tr> <th>Order approach</th> <th>What we need to review</th> <th>Buyer trade-off</th> </tr> </thead> <tbody> <tr> <td>One design, one size, one color</td> <td>Product specification and total quantity</td> <td>A narrower range with fewer variations to manage</td> </tr> <tr> <td>One design, several colors</td> <td>Material availability and quantity per color</td> <td>More visual choice, with stock allocated to each color</td> </tr> <tr> <td>One design, several sizes</td> <td>Dimensions, component changes and quantity per size</td> <td>Broader size coverage, with separate demand assumptions</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Several designs with extensive customization</td> <td>Each design, material requirement and development scope</td> <td>A broader range that requires more coordination</td> </tr> </tbody> </table>
What affects the price of a custom pet product order?
A useful price discussion needs a defined specification. Dimensions, fabric, construction, components, branding, quantity and delivery terms can all affect the quotation.
For a pet bed, the filling and cover construction may be relevant cost factors. For a playpen, the frame, panel layout and mesh specification may matter. For a carrier, the base, carrying system and opening layout may affect the construction.
We encourage buyers to identify essential features and optional changes. This allows a discussion of alternatives without assuming that every change is acceptable.
Any saving should be confirmed through a revised quotation. Fewer colors or a different material should not be presented as a guaranteed discount.
What inventory risk should a first-order plan consider?
Each variation creates a separate stock decision. Adding colors or sizes divides the total order across more SKUs, and demand may not be equal across those SKUs.
We ask buyers to share their intended sales channel because it helps explain the product brief. A retail assortment and an online launch may have different priorities.
Your demand forecast remains a commercial decision for your business. We can discuss manufacturing requirements, while you decide how much stock to allocate to each variation.
Does a sample order confirm the bulk-order MOQ?
A development sample and a production order serve different purposes. A sample helps evaluate the product, while bulk-order conditions must be confirmed separately.
Do not treat an approved sample as automatic approval of every requested color, size, or order quantity. When moving toward production, confirm the final specification and the agreed quantity breakdown together.
Sample fees and schedules should also be requested for the specific project.
What common errors make an OEM quotation less useful?
One common error is sending only a total quantity without the variation split. Another is requesting several quotations with different specifications and then comparing only the unit prices.
Other avoidable gaps include missing dimensions, unclear fabric requirements, unconfirmed artwork, and delivery terms that have not been defined.
When you revise the brief, identify what changed. A quotation prepared for one version should not be assumed to cover a later design.
How can we start an MOQ discussion with ZRC?
Send us the following information:
- Product category and reference image
- Target dimensions
- Total planned quantity
- Quantity by size and color
- Required logo, labels and other custom details
- Target market and preferred delivery timing
- Essential features and optional changes
You do not need to have every detail settled. Mark undecided items clearly so we can discuss them with you.
Explore ZRC and send your product inquiry.

What else do buyers ask about pet product MOQ?
Can an existing design be a starting point?
Ask us which existing designs are available for your category and which changes you want to make. Using an existing design does not automatically confirm a lower MOQ or shorter schedule.
Can a logo be added without changing the product structure?
Share your artwork, preferred placement and branding method. We can discuss the request, but the applicable quantities and costs still need confirmation.
Can different product categories share one minimum quantity?
Do not assume that pet beds, carriers and playpens share a single minimum. List each product separately and request confirmation of the order conditions.
Can I request quotations for two order options?
You can submit two clearly labeled options for discussion. Keep the specification differences visible so the resulting quotations can be compared meaningfully.
What is the next step if my planned quantity is below the quoted minimum?
Tell us your planned quantity and which requirements are flexible. Ask whether an alternative is available. Acceptance of a smaller order should only be relied upon after written confirmation.
Editorial note: This first draft explains how to prepare an OEM quantity discussion. It does not introduce a new MOQ policy, price commitment or production schedule.
